Speaker – Nancy Laracy – Bunny in a Basket Program
  • Founder of Bunny Boy and Me – bunnies as therapy pets
  • Became sick with chronic pain from a mixed connective tissue disease and fibromyalgia
  • Life turned upside down – brought Bunny Boy home as a pet to help her manage her pain
  • Mother became ill – wanted to see Bunny, and was amazed to see reaction
  • Bunny became therapy pet and delighted dozens of patients at the rehab center where her mother was living
  • Held resiliency camp for Sandy Hook children – “growing into their grief”. Children say things to Bunny that they wouldn’t say anywhere else
  • Events include Cancercares, Sandy Hook, Adults Speak to Muffin
  • Physiological things about pet therapy – need 50% less pain medication. Pet therapy may be a method of decreasing opioid use.
