Speaker - Robin Strauss, Education Coordinator at the Adler Aphasia Center in Maywood
  • Aphasia is a disorder of language caused by damage to the brain.
  • Damage causes difficulty in retrieving words, does not impact intelligence
  • Most common cause of aphasia is stroke, brain hemorrhage, brain tumor, other braain diseases
  • 2 million people in the United States have aphasia or 1 in every 125 people
  • Most people have never heard of aphasia
  • Mike Adler was a successful businessman who suffered a stroke after surgery, had 3-6 months therapy, but felt unprepared to live life with the disorder.
